Nearly seven years ago now, you came to be.
You swept into our lives,
Planting roots that would grow deep as a tree’s.

Out from you spread vines, coiling around us
Holding us together and never letting go
Saying “You can’t forget me now,
This is MY home”

You took the crumbling pieces of our hearts,
Glued them together and covered the cracks

Your blossoms were bright,
Easy to see,
Filling the world with ecstasy
Always flaunting,
Always yourself,
We could never dream of life with anyone else.

But then there came more
Our family grew
And though you were apprehensive,
Your love enveloped them too.

A staple part
Of the world in our mind
No one else could match you in kind

Before I knew it you’d made a name for yourself
Second in command, replacing someone else

Though you stand where I once stood
I trust you with all my heart to do what’s right and what’s good
I trust you to care for all of us in turn
I trust you to keep our world spinning
Despite all that occurs.

Your blossoms are radiant
Your vines keep us from falling apart
We rest on your roots
Tucked safely in your heart

I could not ask for a better friend
Thank you for brightening our world
From start till the long, long off bitter end.
