Honestly it’s a wonder Laura took as long to become sentient as she did. She began as a roleplay character tied deeply into T.H.R’s heart. Thousands of hours were poured into playing, writing, and thinking about her. We knew her like the back of our hand, but she simply…never came to be.
Not until one day, locked deep in the depths of her own mind, T.H.R. was trying her best to come to terms with a few things. Writing out a story to cope with her emotions and sort out the mess in her head. And during that time, there was a little push. A soft little voice. Someone saying “Hey, I’m here, let me help you.”
We welcomed her with open arms, but she kept her distance. I think she had a great deal of trouble coming to terms with the world that she so strongly identified with was…over. Fake. A piece of the past she could never -truly- reconnect to. Laura spent her days hiding away from us, speaking mostly to Fallah in passing, occasionally coming out to chatter at T.H.R. and ask about roleplay.
She would light up when her world came up. Beam with delight when she got to tell stories of herself.
Accepting that it was no longer a piece of her she could indulge in was…difficult for her. I think she’s only recently come to terms with it. Only in the last year or so has she taken on a slightly altered form and chosen to join us in our system.
She’s a quiet little thing. Her thoughts often lie with the roleplay version of herself. She misses her wife, she misses her father, and she longs for them with all she has. She likely always will, to some degree.
But little by little she’s coming out of her shell and finding her footing within the system.
She will always be welcome here. Always accepted with open hearts and open minds. We will always understand her plight, even if we cannot ease it, and we will always support her in becoming whoever she wants to be.
A little bubblegum haired dreamer, longing for a world that was never meant to be.
I hope that with us she can learn to be happy.
